El Yunque Forest it’s the most ancient natural area designated as a reserve in the Western Hemisphere.  This forest it’s a must see while in Puerto Rico.  Coqui frogs serenaded us as we walked amongst 240 species of plants and trees.  The rainiest of all National Forests, is home to the Puerto Rican Parrot which is one of the ten most endangered species of birds in the world with only 30 alive in the wild.  We weren’t lucky enough to see one but if you ever visit and do consider yourself one lucky person!  The only tropical forest within U.S. territory El Yunque Forest must be experienced!  It’s almost a mystical experience that can’t be described.

“According to ancient Indian legend, the good spirit ‘Yuquiyu’ ( or ‘Yokahu’ ) reigned on his mighty mountain-top throne, protecting Puerto Rico and its people.”
